The Maryvale Panthers fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past San Luis 23-20. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Maryvale also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Maryvale can attribute much of their success to Valerie A paniagua chavez, who scored two points along with seven rebounds and six steals. A paniagua chavez has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ivanna Ruelas, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Several Sidewinders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Fernanda Aranda, who scored five points along with five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Julissa Montoya, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds.
Maryvale's win bumped their record up to 5-13. As for San Luis, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maryvale will face off against the Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Browne comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for San Luis, they will head out on the road to face off against the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Gila Ridge presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Sidewinders in Arizona (the Hawks are ranked 85th, while the Sidewinders are ranked 273rd).
