Basketball Recap: Blue Ridge Falls Despite Big Games from Paul Bishop and Ty'korian Campbell

Blue Ridge's tournament run continued when they took on Laurens on Saturday. The Blue Ridge Fighting Tigers'2024 ended with a 57-40 loss against the Laurens Raiders. While losing is never fun, the Fighting Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 176th, while the Raiders are ranked 40th).

Ty'Korian Campbell and Paul Bishop certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Campbell almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds, while Bishop went 5 of 10 on his way to 10 points and eight boards. Bishop is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Laurens to victory, but perhaps none more so than Q Quinton Watts, who went 8 of 14 on his way to 19 points. Tyj Narrius Jones was another key player, going 6 of 14 on his way to 14 points along with five boards and five steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Blue Ridge and nudges their season record down to 4-10. As for Laurens, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

Blue Ridge didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-40 win against Travelers Rest on the 3rd. As for Laurens, they will face off against Mauldin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Laurens is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.1 points per game this season.
