After a string of six wins, the Yorkville Christian Mustangs's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They suffered a rough 86-65 loss at the hands of Niles North. While losing is never fun, Yorkville Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 381st, while Niles North is ranked 69th).
When it comes to explaining why Yorkville Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jayden Riley. Despite the final result, he scored 31 points along with five assists and two steals. That was a full 47.7% of Yorkville Christian's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Aguado, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 19 rebounds.
Yorkville Christian's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-15. As for Niles North, they pushed their record up to 21-6 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home.
Yorkville Christian will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Milwaukee Academy of Science at 12:50 p.m. on February 8th. Milwaukee Academy of Science has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,166 points over their last 14 games. As for Niles North, they will play host again and welcome Maine East, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Maine East has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
