The Newcastle Dogies had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They enjoyed a cozy 47-31 victory over Burns on Friday. For Newcastle, this counts as revenge for the 58-42 defeat Burns walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2022.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Newcastle to victory, but perhaps none more so than Thatcher Troftgruben, who scored eight points along with six steals and five rebounds. Pate Tavegie was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Despite the loss, Burns saw an underclassman step up: Parker Ochsner scored 13 points along with four steals.
Newcastle's win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-0. As for Burns, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Newcastle will head out on the road to face off against Pine Bluffs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Wyoming (Pine Bluffs is ranked 37th, while Newcastle is ranked 40th). As for Burns, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Arvada at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Arvada focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Thursday.
