Moore Catholic hasn't had much luck against St. Peter recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Mavericks will welcome the Eagles at 4:15 p.m. The matchup will give Moore Catholic their first taste of in-conference action this season.
On Tuesday, Moore Catholic came up short against St. Raymond Boys and fell 6-3.
Moore Catholic saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was MATTHEW DOYLE, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, St. Peter's waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Salesian a 13-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for St. Peter's, who have now won four games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Louis Demontreux looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Anthony Macaluso, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Salvatore Fragiglio was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
St. Peter's was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Salesian only posted a batting average of .227.
St. Peter's pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Moore Catholic, they now have a losing record of 3-4-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Moore Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like St. Peter's struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Moore Catholic came up short against St. Peter's in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 5-2. Can the Mavericks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
