On Friday, The Pleasant Grove Vikings faced the Herriman Mustangs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Pleasant Grove managed a 21-17 win over Herriman. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but Pleasant Grove was the (much) better team in the second half.
Pleasant Grove can attribute much of their success to Carson Rasmussen, who rushed for 39 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 199 yards and a touchdown.
Despite the loss, Herriman still got an impressive performance from Frederick Ta?ai, who rushed for 147 yards while picking up 7.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Ta?ai was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards.
Pleasant Grove's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Herriman, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.
Pleasant Grove will face off against Skyridge at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Skyridge is ranked third, while Pleasant Grove is ranked fifth). Herriman will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Pleasant Grove at 6:00 p.m. on November 3rd.
