The Walker Valley Mustangs will challenge the Boyd-Buchanan Buccaneers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
On Monday, Walker Valley got the win against Whitwell by a conclusive 12-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.
Olivia Presswood made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Presswood was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Davenport, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Morgan Rice was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Walker Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Whitwell only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, Boyd-Buchanan gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They blew past Soddy Daisy 11-3. The victory was some much needed relief for the Buccaneers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Peyton Schwieter looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Keyanna Jordan was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Mercedes Smith, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Walker Valley skirted past Boyd-Buchanan 4-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Does Walker Valley have another victory up their sleeve, or will Boyd-Buchanan turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
