On Saturday, the Odessa Bronchos had to suffer through a 69-28 loss at the hands of the Ellison Eagles. The Bronchos were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-21.
Despite the loss, Odessa still got an impressive performance from Santi Medrano, who picked up 68 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 121 yards and a touchdown on only 11 passes. Bo Rodriguez also helped out with an impressive 84 receiving yards.
Odessa wouldn't let Ellison keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Ixzeiby Soltero, Mason Fazenbaker, and Landon Wilkerson picked up one apiece. Dominick Taylor was another major factor on D, making 12 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
It was another big night for Sidney Holland Jr, who threw for 369 yards and eight touchdowns while completing 78.8% of his passes, and also rushed for 54 yards and two touchdowns for Ellison. That's the most rushing yards Holland Jr has posted since back in October of 2023. Travaris Turner-Smith was Holland Jr's top target, picking up 98 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Odessa's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Ellison, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
After each having a week off, Odessa and Permian will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 7:00 p.m. on October 11th. Permian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Odessa likes a good challenge. As for Ellison, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Belton at 7:00 p.m. on October 10th. Ellison is facing Belton at the right time seeing as Belton is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
