The Waverly Vikings lost against the Crete Cardinals back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Waverly suffered a tough 66-42 loss at the hands of Crete. While losing is never fun, Waverly can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 154th, while Crete is ranked 13th).
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Keaton Rine, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Nathan Axmann, who scored 11 points.
Waverly's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Crete, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Waverly will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Scottsbluff at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. After both having extra time off, Crete and Gering will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another on January 5, 2024. Gering has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 208 points over their last three matchups.
