Baseball Recap: Overland Wins Going Away Against Thornton

While Overland put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Thornton. The Trailblazers were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Trojans. The result was nothing new for the Trailblazers, who have now won five matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Kevin Uribe made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Overland's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brayan Ascensio, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Uriel Hernandez, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Overland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win made it two in a row for Overland and bumps their season record up to 6-8. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Thornton, they are on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-16.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Overland will face off against Denver South at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Thornton, they will take on Aurora Central at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Thornton's pitchers better be ready for this one: Aurora Central has averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
