The James Monroe Mavericks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 33 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat River View 68-35 on the road. Winning may never get old, but James Monroe sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
James Monroe's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mary Beth Meadows led the charge by scoring 15 points along with eight assists and eight steals. Meadows set a new season high mark in blocks with two. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Dunlap, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds.
Several Raiders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Abigail Pruitt, who scored ten points. The matchup was Pruitt's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Chasity Kennedy was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with nine rebounds.
James Monroe's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for River View, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. James Monroe will face off against Montcalm at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Montcalm has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for River View, they will head out on the road to face off against WestSide at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in West Virginia (WestSide is ranked 41st, while River View is ranked 51st).
