Even though the Glenwood Springs Demons scored an imposing 57 points on Saturday, the Erie Tigers still came out on top. Erie had just enough and edged the Demons out 59-57. For Erie, this counts as revenge for the 58-41 loss the Demons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Erie to victory, but perhaps none more so than Callen Gebhardt, who scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Christopher Smith, who scored 12 points.
Glenwood Springs lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sim Wenger, who scored 20 points along with three steals. That was a full 35.1% of Glenwood Springs' points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Alec Claassen, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Erie now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Glenwood Springs, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Erie will take on the Red Wolves at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Loveland: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while the Tigers have snatched up three consecutive wins on the road. As for Glenwood Springs, they will face off against the Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Battle Mountain will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 274th, while the Demons are ranked 109th).
