The Riverview Sharks lost against the Durant Cougars back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Riverview fell 45-35 to Durant. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Riverview in their matchups with Durant: they've now lost three in a row.
Riverview's loss came despite strong showings from Yasmin Johnson and Kayaunna Dean. Johnson scored ten points along with eight rebounds, while Dean scored 16 points along with eight steals. Dean has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shaunesse Ehlers, who scored two points along with six rebounds and six blocks.
Mikaiah Hallback was the offensive standout of the game as she scored 23 points along with six steals and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Elani-hazel Randall, who scored eight points along with 16 rebounds and four blocks.
Riverview now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Durant, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-8.
Riverview will stay at home for another game and welcome Newsome at 6:30 p.m. on January 16th. As for Durant, they will head out on the road to square off against Gaither at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
