The Burlingame Panthers lost against the Half Moon Bay Cougars back in May of 2021, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Burlingame took a 64-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of Half Moon Bay. While losing is never fun, Burlingame can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 447th, while Half Moon Bay is ranked 111th).
When it comes to explaining why Burlingame lost, one person who can't be blamed is Alain Kazarian. Despite the final result, he scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. That was a full 47.1% of Burlingame's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Anthony Friis, who scored eight points.
Burlingame's defeat dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Half Moon Bay, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Burlingame on the road again on Friday and play against Carlmont at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. As for Half Moon Bay, they will square off against Menlo-Atherton at 7:45 p.m. on Friday.
