Mount Airy Christian Academy will head out on the road to take on the Rockbridge Academy Scots at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Mount Airy Christian Academy proved they can win big two weeks ago (they won by 13) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Perry Hall Christian 9-8.
Charlie Kichler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Kichler was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Carson Gilbert was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Joey Stanton, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, Rockbridge Academy hadn't done well against Perry Hall Christian recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Scots sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Perry Hall Christian. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Scots have posted since April 22, 2024.
Like Mount Airy Christian Academy, Rockbridge Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Evan Tessneer. He struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Tessneer was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Tessneer wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Samuel Parlette, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Rockbridge Academy now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Mount Airy Christian Academy, their record is now 2-0.
Mount Airy Christian Academy suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Rockbridge Academy in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can Mount Airy Christian Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
