Baseball Recap: Mapleton Gets the Win

Mapleton's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Western Reserve Roughriders. The win continues a trend for the Mounties in their matchups with the Roughriders: they've now won five in a row.

Mason Sword made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has become a key player for Mapleton: the team is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-11 otherwise. Sword was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Sword wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Dennison, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave Dennison a new career-high. Chase Sword was another, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Mapleton's victory bumped their record up to 5-11. As for Western Reserve, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.

Mapleton will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Roughriders: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
