Softball Game Preview: Parkway Panthers vs. Elida Bulldogs

Parkway is a perfect 4-0 against Elida since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Panthers will take on the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Parkway sitting on four straight victories and Elida on seven.

Parkway proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 13) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over Bath.

Elida came out on top against Bath on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run second inning. The Bulldogs blew past the Wildcats 9-1. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by eight runs or more this season.

Lilly Sifrit made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Liv Walters, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Carly Chiles was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Elida pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Parkway, their record now sits at 10-1.

Parkway took their victory against Elida when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 20-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
