Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Bellevue West walked away with it. They came out on top against the Bellevue East Chieftains by a score of 61-49 on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Thunderbirds sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
Bellevue West got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Yirah Sears out in front who posted 15 points along with six boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Stevie Harley, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Bellevue West was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bellevue East only five assists.
Bellevue East lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Brani Jackson, who put up 19 points and five boards. Mya Weber was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and 13 rebounds.
Bellevue West's victory bumped their record up to 18-8. As for Bellevue East, they moved to 21-5 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.
Looking ahead, Bellevue West will challenge Omaha Westside at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
