The Springville Red Devils's 23-3 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 63-42 walloping at the hands of Snow Canyon on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Springville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while Snow Canyon is ranked third).
Several Red Devils players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Natalie Florence, who scored 9 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Brynn Johnson, who scored 10 points.
Olivia Hamlin was her usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 steals for Snow Canyon. The game was Hamlin's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Joey Jensen, who scored 8 points along with 6 assists and 4 steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Springville and nudges their season record down to 1-3. As for Snow Canyon, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.
Springville will head out on the road to face off against Clearfield at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Clearfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday. As for Snow Canyon, they will be playing at home against Canyon View at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
