North Pontotoc is on a three-game streak of home losses, the Trojans a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The North Pontotoc Vikings will take on the Bruce Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Pontotoc has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Last Monday, North Pontotoc came up short against the Bulldogs and fell 60-51. While losing is never fun, North Pontotoc can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 80th).
Meanwhile, Bruce took a serious blow against the Falcons on Tuesday, falling 67-29. Bruce was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-15.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Ashton Pierce, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and five blocks.
Bruce struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
North Pontotoc has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-18 record this season. As for Bruce, their loss dropped their record down to 4-15.
