Softball Recap: West Mesa Wins Going Away Against Valencia

West Mesa hadn't done well against Valencia recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Jaguars. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven matches by eight runs or more so far this season.

Shyloh Aguilar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ellie Padilla, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Mya Baca was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs.

West Mesa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

West Mesa has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Valencia, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

West Mesa has already played their next match, a 10-8 defeat against Portales on the 29th. As for Valencia, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-5 loss against Rio Rancho on the 29th.
