The Canyon Crest Academy Ravens will challenge the Liberty Charter Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Canyon Crest Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over Classical Academy on Wednesday. With that victory, the Ravens brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
Grace Yao made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Yao was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Canyon Crest Academy let Addison Okerberg and Melony Garcia run wild. Okerberg scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Garcia scored three runs while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave Okerberg a new career-high. Emma Callstrom was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Liberty Charter owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Monday. Everything went their way against San Diego as they made off with a 6-0 win. The Lions not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since May 9, 2024.
Not much got past Leah Urias, who gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks to keep San Diego off the board. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Urias.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Layla Montgomery, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. She also put up two doubles, which were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kaiya McKay, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Canyon Crest Academy's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Liberty Charter, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.
