The Bellevue East Chieftains's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a 57-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Omaha Central. Bellevue East has not had much luck with Omaha Central recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Bellevue East saw an underclassman step up: TNiyah Wilson-Smith scored 21 points. Jamyla Gilmore was another key contributor, scoring three points.
Even though they lost, Bellevue East were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Leading Omaha Central to victory were Aalaiya Davis and Inia Jones. Davis scored 15 points along with six rebounds, while Jones scored 25 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. That's the first time this season that Davis scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Lilliana Petersen, who scored two points along with six rebounds.
Bellevue East has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. As for Omaha Central, their win bumped their record up to 12-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bellevue East has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Fremont at 5:30 p.m. on January 11th. Fremont is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Omaha Central, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Millard West at 5:30 p.m. Millard West is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
