Commerce is 0-4 against Winnsboro since March of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Tigers will welcome the Raiders at 6:00 p.m.
Things were looking good for Commerce after they put the first run on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Prairiland by a score of 5-4.
Charley Lytle put in work no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Kaelyn Morgan made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Winnsboro entered their tilt with Rains on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Wildcats. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Commerce, Winnsboro also got a great game from a two-way player: Traci Rogers. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Rogers was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Winnsboro let Kari Rogers and Halie Shirley run wild. Rogers went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base, while Shirley went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Avery Herlocker, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Commerce's loss dropped their record down to 7-12-1. As for Winnsboro, their win bumped their record up to 13-3-2.
