The Sahuarita Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 51-40 to Amphitheater. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Sahuarita in their matchups with Amphitheater: they've now lost three in a row.
Sahuarita's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Daniel Durazo, who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alejandro Vega, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Sahuarita struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Amphitheater racked up 12 assists.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Amphitheater to victory, but perhaps none more so than Moses Messan, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Dashawn McCraney was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Sahuarita's defeat dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Amphitheater, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.
Sahuarita will be playing in front of their home fans against Rio Rico at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rio Rico is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses. As for Amphitheater, they will head out on the road to face off against Walden Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Averaging 65.1 so far this season, Walden Grove's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Amphitheater better be ready for a challenge.
