Basketball Recap: Apex Friendship Skates Past Cardinal Gibbons with Ease

On Monday, the Apex Friendship Patriots were fully in charge, breezing past the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders 67-34. The Patriots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 27 points or more this season.

Jasmine Nivar continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 12 of 23 on her way to 32 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Apex Friendship's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ailani Collazo, who posted four points in addition to six assists and six boards.

Apex Friendship smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Cardinal Gibbons' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaclyn Deis, who had seven points. Deis continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Emma Hughes, who put up nine points.

Apex Friendship is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Cardinal Gibbons, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Apex Friendship will be playing at home against Holly Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Apex Friendship is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.9 points per game this season. As for Cardinal Gibbons, they will head out on the road to challenge Broughton at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
