It may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but the Leake Academy Rebels ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They secured a 61-57 W over Simpson Academy. The victory was familiar territory for Leake Academy who now have four in a row.
Leading Leake Academy to victory were Olivia Rudolph and Katye Jones. Rudolph dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Jones scored 22 points along with nine rebounds. That's the first time this season that Rudolph pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Morgan Young, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Leake Academy pushed their record up to 24-4 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.2 points per game. As for Simpson Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Leake Academy will take on Grace Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Grace Christian is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Simpson Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Taylorsville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Taylorsville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 145th, while Simpson Academy is ranked 44th).
