Angel Arroyo made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vinny Arguello, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Cesar H was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Alameda always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Strasburg had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They never let Bruce Randolph get on the board and left with a 17-0 win.
Like Alameda, Strasburg also got a great game from a two-way player: Chase Gilbert. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gilbert was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Strasburg let Aiden Bongard and Jared Flamini run wild. Bongard scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Flamini went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Erik Alamillo, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.
Alameda pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Strasburg, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
