Canutillo is 4-0 against Mountain View since December of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Canutillo Eagles will head out to take on the Mountain View Lobos at 6:00 p.m. Canutillo is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.8 points per game this season.
Mountain View is hoping to do what Ysleta couldn't on Tuesday: put an end to Canutillo's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Canutillo came out on top in a nail-biter against Ysleta, sneaking past 44-42. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since January 2nd.
Canutillo's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jay Taylor led the charge by putting up 12 points. Another player making a difference was Donovan Mozer, who posted eight points.
Meanwhile, Mountain View hadn't done well against Harmony Science Academy recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Mountain View skirted past Harmony Science Academy 57-55. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lobos.
Mountain View's win came from a few key players Canutillo will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Omar Nevarez, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 15 points and five steals. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Slosar, who had 12 points and five assists.
Mountain View was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February.
Canutillo is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.8 points per game. As for Mountain View, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-12.
Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Austin Bonilla and Slosar. Bonilla has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 10.9 points, 3.5 steals, and 6.1 assists. For his part, Slosar has averaged 8.6 points, 3.8 steals, and 3 assists.
