The Lakeland Chiefs are taking a road trip to square off against the Western Wayne Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lakeland will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Lakeland took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Old Forge, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Chiefs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Blue Devils on Thursday, sneaking past 9-7. The win was some much needed relief for the Chiefs as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
The team relied heavily on Mick Eremo, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alix Roberts, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lakeland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 4-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Western Wayne). They blew past Blue Ridge 14-4 on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
Adysen Wargo made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Hannah DeStefano was incredible, firing off three triples, two runs, and two RBI while going 3-for-4. Khloe Mistishin was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Lakeland's record now sits at 5-6. As for Western Wayne, their record is now 2-7.
Lakeland took their win against Western Wayne in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Do the Chiefs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
