Oakwood is 2-8 against Salt Fork since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Comets will look to defend their home field against the Storm at 4:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
Oakwood is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Heritage on Wednesday as they made off with a 16-1 victory. The Comets haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Irene Rangel made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Rangel was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Ashtyn Dailey and Gracie Hanner did most of the damage at the plate: Dailey got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Hanner went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. That's the most hits Hanner has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jelanna Tall, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Oakwood hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, while Salt Fork put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Arcola. The Storm blew past the Purple Riders 22-0. Considering the Storm have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Oakwood's victory bumped their record up to 13-9. As for Salt Fork, their win bumped their record up to 11-7.
