The JW North Huskies will challenge the Heritage Patriots at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. JW North is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
JW North took a 12-run defeat the last time they faced off against Hillcrest, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Huskies had just enough and edged out the Trojans 4-3.
Anela Kinnevey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, JW North saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lily Hiraoka, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Heritage lost 11-1 to Arlington on Tuesday. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Natalia York and Lizette Perez did some serious damage despite the final result: York went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double, while Perez scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-1. Those stolen bases marked the first that Perez snagged this season. Morgan Martens was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.
JW North is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Heritage, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.
Heritage's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: JW North has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. It's a different story for Heritage, though, as they've been averaging 11.9 hits. Given JW North's sizable advantage in that area, the Patriots will need to find a way to close that gap.
JW North couldn't quite get it done against Heritage in their previous meeting back in March of 2015 as they fell 6-3. Will the Huskies have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
