Woodside hasn't had much luck against Capuchino recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Wildcats will look to defend their home field against the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. Woodside will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Woodside turned things around against Burlingame on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Panthers.
Hannah Walker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Woodside got a big performance out of Caroline Ong, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one double. Vanessa Carlos was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Capuchino). They put the hurt on Carlmont with a sharp 17-1 win on Tuesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Mustangs, who have now won six games in a row.
Lola Sierra made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Sierra was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Avery Motroni was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Star Gutierrez, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Capuchino hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive contests.
Capuchino's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Woodside, their win bumped their record up to 13-10.
Woodside might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Capuchino in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
