6A District 6 recap September 24, 2013
James Pensyl and Javin Tandy provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Mitchell. The longest such play in 6A District 6 this season, the connection resulted in 81 yards.
Springstead moved up to 191 from 227 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Eagles climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Sunlake 14-13.
Tandy was the best wideout in the league this week as Land O'Lakes topped the Mustangs. Tandy tallied 2 receptions for 135 yards. Liam Heaney helped Land O'Lakes' passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 66 yards.
Christian Trinidad was the best running back in 6A District 6 this week. He ran for 143 yards on 21 carries as Mitchell beat Mitchell. Teammate Nate Boler added to the ground attack by rushing for 15 yards.
Pensyl provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Land O'Lakes defeated Scott Schmitz's team. He completed 18 passes for 282 yards and also ran for 20 yards.
Eric Vitale put up the best numbers in passing as Fivay beat Lecanto. He finished with a total of 11 completions for 233 yards and 3 touchdowns. Vitale's favorite target this week was Christian Coleman, who caught 4 passes for 100 yards.
He went 11-18 with 1 interception.
6-foot-6 quarterback Pensyl of Brian Wachtel's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,153. He has also thrown 9 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Coleman. The Fivay star has 9 catches for 354 yards.
The Gators added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Mustangs, 45-21. The win marks fourth in a row for the Land O'Lakes.
