The Williams Vikings were the 39-32 winner over El Capitan/Centennial Academy when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Williams took a 51-36 bruising from El Capitan/Centennial Academy on Thursday. Williams has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
When it comes to explaining why Williams lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kai Mortensen. Despite the final result, she scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. That was a full 52.8% of Williams' points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
El Capitan/Centennial Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Violet Barlow, who scored nine points along with six steals and five assists. Barlow is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Leta Hammon was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Williams now has a losing record at 8-9. As for El Capitan/Centennial Academy, they pushed their record up to 9-5 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Williams will challenge Grand Canyon at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Grand Canyon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten last Saturday.
