The Polytechnic Panthers will challenge the Chadwick Dolphins at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Polytechnic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.6 runs per game this season.
Polytechnic was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Westridge on Tuesday. The Panthers blew past the Tigers 19-1. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Amelia Shih and Kate Asperger made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Shih didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Asperger tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Shih has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Shih scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while Asperger scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Brynn Connolly was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Carthan Connolly, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Polytechnic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Chadwick was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Mayfield. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Dolphins have suffered against the Cubs since April 27, 2021.
Sammy Santa Ana spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits and racked up 11 Ks.
At the plate, Chadwick saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Araya Tekeste, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
Chadwick's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Polytechnic, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Chadwick's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Polytechnic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .367. It's a different story for Chadwick, though, as they've only averaged .243. Will they be able to contain Polytechnic's hitters?
Polytechnic took their win against Chadwick in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 22-2 score. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dolphins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
