Capital Athletic League recap October 22, 2013
Whitney moved up to 298 from 354 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Capital Athletic League. The Wildcats were able to move up by besting Rio Americano 56-28.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Antelope beat Mira Loma 42-6. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Zack Tapia was a passing and rushing force as Cordova fell to El Camino. He completed 5 passes for 144 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 54 yards.
Marcus Robinson made the biggest impact on defense this week as Whitney defeated the Raiders. The 5-foot-10 senior racked up 1 sack.
Drew Romo put up the best numbers through the air as Mike Gimenez's team beat Rio Americano. He finished with a total of 12 completions for 158 yards and 2 touchdowns. Romo's favorite target this week was Kris Corpus, who caught 3 passes for 43 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Wildcats' Romo and Corpus have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-4 quarterback Romo has thrown for 1,161 yards this season, while Corpus has 18 catches for 312 yards. Antelope's Titus Vinson leads the league in rushing yards with 636.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Whitney's Corpus goes up against the Eagles' Kijana Zigler.
Next week's game between the Wildcats and El Camino will feature a good passing match up as Romo will test his arm against Zigler's defensive ability.
A big matchup in Capital Athletic League this week will be when Adam Reinking's team takes on Whitney. The Eagles are currently in third, while the Wildcats are in second.
There should be lots of points scored when El Camino and Whitney face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Eagles comes in having scored 287 this season, while the Wildcats have scored 206. El Camino scored 57 points last week as it beat the Lancers.
The Eagles took down Cordova 57-16 last week, the largest margin of any game. Greg Scott ran for 158 yards in the win.
