Miller City hasn't had much luck against Paulding recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. Miller City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Miller City will bounce into Monday's match after beating Crestview, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. The Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over the Knights on Friday.
Bailey David was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Morgan Verhoff, who scored three runs while going 4-for-4.
Miller City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crestview only posted a batting average of .259.
Meanwhile, the third road game was the charm for Paulding, as they earned their first away win of the season. They put the hurt on Jefferson with a sharp 14-7 victory on Friday. The Panthers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Tia Mendez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mariah Klopfenstein, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Marley Parrett was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Miller City's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-4. As for Paulding, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Miller City couldn't quite get it done against Paulding in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
