Viewmont and Woods Cross are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2015, but not for long. The Vikings will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Viewmont is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
On Thursday, Viewmont came up short against Alta and fell 25-14.
Although Viewmont took the loss, they still got scores from Benji Tolman and Miles Frey.
Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 1.8 yards per carry. The team can thank Owen Seeley for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Viewmont; they were averaging 5.8yards per carry per game earlier this season, but in their last three contests they've fallen to only 2.3 per game.
Viewmont's defense didn't let Tucker Brown, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Cooper Willoughby and Seeley, who each picked up 1.5 sacks apiece. Viewmont got some further help from Willoughby: he picked up 1.5 sacks, made five total tackles (2.5 for loss), and defended one pass.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Woods Cross). They took their matchup on Thursday with ease, bagging a 40-7 victory over Olympus. With the Wildcats ahead 26-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Woods Cross has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.2 points on average over those games. As for Viewmont, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Things could have been worse for Viewmont, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 50-34 loss to Woods Cross in their previous matchup back in September of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Wildcats' Viliami Tapa'Atoutai, who rushed for 271 yards and six touchdowns. Now that the Vikings know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
