Columbia River and Woodland are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Rapids will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Beavers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Columbia River put up the most runs they have all season on Thursday. They walked away with a 17-12 win over Hockinson. The victory continues a trend for the Rapids in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won five in a row.
Columbia River let Emily Hull and Haley Corona run wild. Hull went a perfect 5-for-5 with seven RBI, two stolen bases, and two doubles, while Corona scored five runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most doubles Hull has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Aubrey, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-5.
They weren't the only one making solid contact: Columbia River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Woodland got themselves on the board against Hudson's Bay on Wednesday, but Hudson's Bay never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Eagles. The Beavers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by six runs or more this season.
Gracelynn Huffman and Addi Christensen made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Huffman tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Christensen kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Huffman has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Huffman scored two runs while going 1-for-1, while Christensen went 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple. That triple was Christensen's first of the season.
In other batting news, Ainsleigh Utter was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jolie Oathes, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.
Woodland now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Columbia River, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Columbia River hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Woodland struggles in that department as they've averaged .376. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Columbia River's way against Woodland when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Columbia River made off with a 12-5 victory. Will the Rapids repeat their success, or do the Beavers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
