The Glenbard North Panthers will square off against the Leyden Eagles at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Glenbard North's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Leyden's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Glenbard North was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Geneva on Thursday. The Panthers blew past the Vikings 12-4. Considering the Panthers have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Aubry Miller was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Miller was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other pitching news, Gina Brown tossed a big game, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single walk in five consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Lauren Kozlovsky was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Gianna Frcek, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Glenbard North was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Geneva only posted a batting average of .241.
Meanwhile, Leyden had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 9-5 win over the Hornets. The game was the first time the Eagles have beaten the Hornets on their field since May 1, 2023.
Elise Bertsche spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Angelina Guillen was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaelyn Quinlan, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Glenbard North's record now sits at 14-6. As for Leyden, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Glenbard North hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Leyden struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Glenbard North skirted past Leyden 5-3 in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
