Basketball Recap: Julian Acereto Key Part of a Team Effort in Mustangs Win

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Dobson's strategy against Sunnyside on Friday. The Dobson Mustangs enjoyed a cozy 61-44 win over the Sunnyside Blue Devils. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Dobson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Julian Acereto, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 14 points in addition to five rebounds and three blocks. The dominant performance gave Acereto a new career-high in points. Akino Drake was another key player, going 5 of 9 en route to 11 points.

Dobson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sunnyside only pulled down three offensive rebounds.

Sunnyside lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Isacc Moreno, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 12 points and six assists. Another player making a difference was Jose Nieblas, who went 5 of 11 en route to 10 points.

Dobson's victory bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Sunnyside, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-15.

Dobson will head out on the road to square off against Mountain View at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sunnyside, they will take on Rincon/University at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rincon/University knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Sunnyside likes a good challenge.
