El Capitan is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 13 runs last Thursday, they were much more limited against Steele Canyon on Wednesday. They fell 6-1 to the Cougars. The Vaqueros have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
El Capitan saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Quinnley Morehouse, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Granite Hills made sure to put some runs up on the board against Southwest EC on Friday. Granite Hills came out on top in a nail-biter against Southwest EC, sneaking past 14-13.
Granite Hills let Taylor Nash and Olivia Cirar run wild. Nash fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4, while Cirar went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Cirar a new career-high. Ariana Parent was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Granite Hills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.4.
Granite Hills' win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-13. As for El Capitan, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-11.
Granite Hills' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: El Capitan has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Granite Hills, though, as they've been averaging 9.7 hits. Given El Capitan's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
