Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Corey Kiner of
Roger Bacon (Cincinnati) is the 2020 MaxPreps Ohio High School Football Player of the Year. The 5-foot-10, 210-pound senior running back rushed for 1,869 yards and 32 touchdowns this fall, leading the Spartans to a 10-1 record and the Division V state semifinals.
Kiner's remarkable senior campaign included four 200-yard performances – highlighted by 363 yards and seven touchdowns in a win over Norwood on Sept. 11. He also tallied 263 yards in the return and receiving game, putting him over 2,000 all-purpose yards on the year.
For his career, Kiner finished with 7,130 rushing yards (10th-best in state history) and 772 points (third in state history).
247Sports rated Kiner as the No. 20 senior running back prospect in the country. He fielded offers from at least 20 programs, including Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released Jan. 29.
