After flying high against the Cumberland Gap Panthers last Wednesday, the Gibbs Eagles came back down to earth. The matchup between Gibbs and the Highlanders wasn't particularly close, with the Eagles falling 80-65. Gibbs was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Highlanders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played last Thursday.
Gibbs' loss on Friday came despite strong showings from Kamen Shown and Zack Turner. Shown scored 16 points along with six assists and five rebounds, while Turner scored 17 points along with three steals. Turner has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last 11 times he's played. Jayden Rutherford was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Gibbs dropped their record down to 11-13 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Scott, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Gibbs will head out on the road to challenge the Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Union County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven contests -- so hopefully the Eagles like a good challenge. As for Scott, they will be playing at home against the Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
