Oyster River and Kingswood are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Bobcats will challenge the Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Oyster River sitting on eight straight victories and Kingswood on three.
On Tuesday, Oyster River made easy work of Souhegan and carried off a 14-2 win. Considering the Bobcats have won eight matches by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Teagan Nadeau spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up six Ks. Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, Aliza Parks was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Drapeau, who went 3-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Oyster River hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive contests.
Kingswood let Sanborn Regional stack four runs on them in the sixth inning on Monday but luckily Kingswood prevailed anyway. The Knights narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Indians 8-7.
The team relied heavily on Avery G, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Rheegan S was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.
Kingswood's win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Oyster River, their record is now 10-1-1.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Oyster River hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .355. However, it's not like Kingswood struggles in that department as they've averaged .389. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Oyster River's way against Kingswood in their previous meeting back in April, as Oyster River made off with an 18-5 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
