Basketball Recap: Springfield Comes Up Short

Springfield was the 54-31 winner over Granada when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Springfield Longhorns lost to the Granada Bobcats on the road by a 64-47 margin on Tuesday. The Longhorns' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Springfield lost, don't look at Colby Batterton. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine boards. Batterton is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Coltin Woodhouse was another key player, putting up ten points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Springfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Leading Granada to victory were Maddox Coleman and Fernando Cadena. Coleman almost dropped a double-double with 28 points and nine boards, while Cadena dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave Cadena a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Angelo Martinez, who posted four points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Springfield's defeat dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Granada, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Springfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 80-20 loss against Kim/Branson on the 27th. As for Granada, they have also already played their next matchup, a 62-59 defeat against Stratton on the 28th.
