The Ray Ray Jays are taking a road trip to square off against the Williston Coyotes at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Ray will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Divide County on Tuesday. The Ray Jays blew past the Maroons 20-4. The win continues a trend for the Ray Jays in their matchups with the Maroons: they've now won three in a row.
Brinlee Cancade was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Autumn Bloms and Nevaeh Polglaze did most of the damage at the plate: Bloms went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double, while Polglaze went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Brooklyn Edwards was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Ray always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Williston waltzed into their match on Tuesday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. Everything went their way against the Braves as they made off with an 11-1 victory.
Rylee Irgens was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Kyah Stundal also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Ray pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average this season. As for Williston, their record is now 12-1.
Ray's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Ray Jays have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Williston, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Ray continue to outrun the ball?
