With a playoff game on the line, the Bella Vista Broncos rose to the challenge on Friday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Gauchos a 5-0 shutout. Given Bella Vista's advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while El Capitan is ranked 506th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bella Vista hit El Capitan with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from
Owen Dismukes (2),
Reddik Trumbull,
Evan Battistessa, and
Jorge Garcia.
Bella Vista's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 13 goals over those three games. As for El Capitan, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5-4.
Bella Vista will square off against Granite Bay at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Granite Bay will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Bella Vista surely won't give up without a fight. El Capitan does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
