The Highland Tech Rams's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They took a 63-47 bruising from Burns. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Highland Tech in their matchups with Burns: they've now lost seven in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Highland Tech lost, one person who can't be blamed is Elijah Sherrill. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points. Sherrill scored a full 44.7% of Highland Tech's points, the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Elijah Whitted, who scored 14 points along with six assists.
Burns got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lance Beam out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds. Those 15 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Colby Putnam, who scored 14 points.
Highland Tech has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Burns, their victory bumped their record up to 3-8.
Highland Tech will look to defend their home court on Friday against Thomas Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. Thomas Jefferson knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Highland Tech likes a good challenge. As for Burns, they will head out on the road to face off against Cherryville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Cherryville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Wednesday.
